The Voom Blooms Bios

According to the Official Voom Blooms website:

The Voom Blooms are an exciting four-piece from Loughborough. Filled equally with fragility and exuberance, the blooms craft captivating and enigmatic songs steeped in energetic angular riffs and quintessential British culture. With early comparisons to Bloc Party, the Libertines and Interpol, this group have continued to deliver startling and exciting live performances despite being fairly new to the gig-circuit. They kicked off their first collection of shows supporting The Paddingtons, Boy Kill Boy, Larrikin Love and Babyshambles after playing a series of in-house-gigs to packed out kitchens and hallways across the country. By the time of their 9th gig they were headlining the Loughborough University to a crowd of over 500 people. Formed only a year ago, Lamacq has already been playing their debut single on both his 'Radio 1' and 'BBC6Music' shows, inviting the blooms into the studio for a chin-wag as part of his 'new favourite band' section. After that the boys went on to win 'Fresh meat' on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show, which in turn led to regular airplay on various Radio 1 and BBC6 music shows. The band also featured in the top 10 of Channel 4's 'Best New British Bands Showcase' last July, recieving more than 24,000 votes, as well as playing to a packed out audience in Manchester at last year's In The City 2005. Thier debut single "Politics & Cigarettes", released on Fiction/Polydor records to coincide with their 14 date club NME tour, sold out in shops after just one week. The Blooms spent most of the summer writing and recording before embarking on a succesfull Barfly Tour and securing a headline slot on the "Jim Beam Rising Stage" at Leicester's Summer Sundae festival. The boys are hoping for the same success with their next single 'Anna', which will be released as a limited edition 7" on brand new label '23rd Recordings' september 25th.

The history of the Voom Blooms at Wikipedia:

The group formed in July 2005 with Brett Young on bass, and recorded their first single, 'Politics & Cigarettes' in the autumn of that year. The BBC's Steve Lamacq championed the song on both his Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music radio programs, and the band won 'Fresh Meat' on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show. The band also made the top 10 of Channel 4's 'Best New British Bands Showcase', receiving more than 24,000 votes. The single was released in March 2006 on Fiction Records and sold out in less than a week, adding to the excitement of the band's spot on NME's club tour. The band were also announced in Rolling Stone magazine as one of the best new bands of 2006-2007. The band claim their name comes from a mis-heard line in a Japanese film. Their sound has been compared with Bloc Party, The Libertines and Interpol. After only eight gigs they headlined at Loughborough University to a crowd of over 500 people. The band were signed to Fiction Records, and debut single "Politics & Cigarettes" sold out within a week.

Having supported the likes of The Paddingtons, The Horrors, The View, Milburn, Larrikin Love, Babyshambles and Boy Kill Boy, and played at Manchester's In The City and Leicester's Summer Sundae festivals, The Voom Blooms have concentrated on recording their debut album. Brett Young left the band in January 2007 and is currently working on a new project.

Here's a bio from KEXP:

The Voom Blooms, a quartet from Loughborough, have generated tons of buzz on the strength of a couple of EP’s and singles. Shortly after their forming in 2005, they were immediately latched onto by various bigwigs like NME, Rolling Stone, Radio 1 and BBC, causing their first couple singles to be sold out in a matter of days. Little more than a month ago the drought was ended and The Voom Blooms released Nine Ships, but only in Japan. Fret not; the band is currently working hard in the studio polishing off US and UK versions of the album to be released in the Spring of ‘08. And while the many Bloc Party and Libertines nods may tip you in the right direction, sonically and vocally The VBs intimate a softer side, letting it be known that they are not just another post-punk band. You be the judge.
